Peppy Kernels


A nutritious hot cereal made from a blend of whole grains and seeds. We mix the grains in quantity to be cooked as we need it. Our kernels have become so popular that Bob’s Red Mill was inspired to replicate them for everyone to enjoy at home. Here’s our original recipe:

Peppy Kernels

Yield: 13 cups uncooked cereal

  • 4 cups rolled oats
  • 2 cups wheat flakes
  • 2 cups bulgar wheat (cracked wheat)
  • 1 cup sesame seeds
  • 1 cup millet
  • 1 cup flax seeds
  • 1 cup bran
  • 1 cup wheat germ

Combine all ingedients, mix well, and store in airtight container.

For hot cereal:

1) Place 2 cup of liquid (such as apple juice or water) into heavy-bottomed saucepan. 

2) Add 1 cup of grain mix. 

3) Add a bit of butter and dash of salt.

4) Add the grains and reduce the heat to a simmer.

5) Cover and cook for 10 minutes, let sit for 5 minutes before serving. Serve with your favorite toppings!
